AI Alt Text Generator Pro is an optional add-on for WordPress sites using AI Alt Text Generator. The base extension generates concise, WCAG-aligned alt text; Pro includes tools for managing picture descriptions as a continuing process.

Context for WooCommerce pictures

When generating alt text for WooCommerce product images, Pro can use product context. This extends the base add-on’s page-context awareness with details suited to product pages.

Scans and coverage

Schedule background scans for new and existing images. The coverage analytics dashboard tracks progress across the image library and helps locate images that still need attention. Pro also includes automatic updates and priority support.

What the base plugin includes

AI Alt Text Generator works with bulk processing, automatic generation on upload, custom prompts, multilingual output, prompt testing, and WP-CLI commands. It can use page context and focus keyphrases from Yoast SEO, Rank Math, and SEOPress. You can also pick to set an image’s title, caption, and description from its generated alt text.

How image generation works

The plugin sends images and metadata to the selected external AI service for processing, which returns the generated alt text. An active internet connection is required. By default, the base plugin uses a managed credits service that provides 50 free images per month for each site; paid credit plans are available beyond that tier. Advanced customers can add their own OpenAI or Anthropic API key and choose a vision-capable model offered by their provider. The plugin does not store images or generated alt text on its servers beyond what is needed to return a result.

Install and configure

1. Install and activate AI Alt Text Generator.
2. Add and activate the Pro upgrade.
3. Configure WooCommerce context, scheduled scans, and coverage tracking as needed.
4. Use the managed credits service or add your own OpenAI or Anthropic key in the advanced options.
5. Review the external service requirements before generating descriptions.
