Date and time output in WordPress
WP Date and Time Shortcode displays current, past, or future dates and times in posts and pages. Its main [wpdts] shortcode uses the WordPress date and time format by default. Other shortcode forms support date or time formats, custom PHP date and time formats, individual date components, timestamps, and time-zone output.
Attributes can set the starting value to the current WordPress time, a fixed or relative date and time, or a post’s creation or modification time, including GMT variants. The next attribute can select an upcoming weekday, day of the month, or the month’s last day. Other settings adjust the result by years, months, days, hours, minutes, or seconds; choose a time zone; localize month and week names; change letter case; add a day suffix; select 12- or 24-hour time; and display leading zeros.
Pro additions described
The listed Pro additions are described as planned, and some may not be included in the first Pro release. The current release status is unclear.
- Cached-page updates: JavaScript output can update date and time values on cached pages.
- Event-based starting values: Options include first and last visit, Catholic and Orthodox Easter, Passover, Hanukkah, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year.
- Visitor time zones: Browser or IP-based parameters can adapt the result to a user’s time zone. IP-based detection may be inaccurate.
- Styling and counters: The style option changes font face, color, and size. The counter option updates displayed values as a ticking text clock.
- Shortcode Wizard: A step-by-step interface helps make shortcode configurations.
- Menu placement: An option can change the add-on’s menu location or conceal it.
These date and time outputs can support schedules, date-sensitive notices, countdown-style displays, and seasonal content. Place a shortcode in a post or page and configure its attributes for the value and display needed. Shortcodes in titles, menus, footers, widgets, or other theme areas may require additional code or a plugin if the theme does not process them there.
