WP Mail SMTP Pro is a separate paid extension for managing email sent by WordPress. It reconfigures wp_mail() to use SMTP host credentials or a selected mail provider instead of the default PHP mail function. SMTP authentication can help address common delivery problems. Built-in provider integrations can send through a provider’s direct API, which can work when a web host blocks SMTP ports. Delivery also depends on the provider and sender configuration.

Choose and configure a mailer

WP Mail SMTP works with SendLayer, SMTP.com, Brevo, Gmail and Google Workspace, Elastic Email, Mailgun, Mailjet, MailerSend, Mandrill, Postmark, Resend, SendGrid, SMTP2GO, SparkPost, and Other SMTP. The Pro edition adds native integrations for Microsoft, Amazon SES, and Zoho Mail. One-Click Setup is available for Outlook.com and Office 365. For most mailers, you can set the outgoing from name and email address.

Review and manage sent email

Email logs keep a record of messages sent from WordPress. Each log can show the subject, sender, recipients, content, headers, open and click rates, delivery status, source plugin, and other message details. You can use logs to review, archive, audit, resend, or check email formatting.

Reports, alerts, and sending controls

Dashboard charts summarize weekly sent and failed email. Reports group open and click rates by subject line, and weekly summaries provide statistics about WordPress email. Email alerts can notify you through Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, SMS via Twilio, webhooks, or email through a secure API.

A backup connection can take over if the primary connection fails. WP Mail SMTP Pro detects connection issues, switches to the backup mailer, and retries failed messages. Smart conditional routing sends various email through different mailers based on the subject or message content, sender or recipient address, the plugin that generated the email, and other criteria.

Rate limiting caps how many messages the website sends per minute, hour, day, week, or month, then queues email to stay within the limit. Optimized email sending queues messages in the background to send when the server has resources available. Pro can also disable selected default WordPress notifications. For multisite networks, administrators can manage SMTP settings centrally and view or manage email logs across subsites.

Set up WP Mail SMTP Pro

Install and activate the plugin in WordPress, then open WP Mail SMTP settings and follow the Setup Wizard. Select a supported mailer, enter the required provider details or complete its integration, set the sender name and email address where available, and test the configuration. After setup, review activity in the email logs and reports.
