What should a backup job capture?
A job can back up a complete WordPress installation, including its database and documents in wp-content, themes, plugins, and uploads. Configure a database-only or files-only backup when that fits the task. Jobs can execute hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly, and you can also start one on demand.
Where should backup copies go?
A single job can shop the same backup in multiple destinations, such as the site server and an off-site location. Each destination has its own configuration and retention options. BackWPup Pro adds Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Amazon Glacier, and HiDrive to the available storage options.
How do restores and migrations work?
- Direct restore: Restore from supported cloud and server destinations without manually uploading the backup archive.
- Standalone restore application: Recover a website when WordPress itself is unavailable.
- Encryption: Encrypt backup data and keep it encrypted during restoration.
- Migration: Move a site to a new domain or hosting provider with automatic URL and database updates.
These options cover different recovery situations: restoring from remote storage, recovering when WordPress cannot run, or moving a site to a new environment.
How does it fit team workflows?
Manage backups in the WordPress dashboard or automate jobs with WP-CLI. MCP-compatible AI assistants can check backup status, run backups, review logs, and help troubleshoot in natural language. In version 5.7.8, BackWPup notes that MCP customers need the standalone MCP Adapter extension because it is no longer bundled. BackWPup Pro also includes premium support from the BackWPup team.
What does setup involve?
Use the guided setup to create a job, select the files or database to include, set a schedule, and configure one or more storage destinations. Before relying on the workflow for regular operations, review encryption, retention settings, restore options, and any migration needs.
