Font Awesome icons in WordPress

Add Free or Pro icons to WordPress pages, posts, and templates. Choose the latest release or a specific release. By default, the extension serves Free icons as a web font through the CDN; you can change the icon source in the extension options.

Choose a Kit or the CDN

A Kit can provide icon styles, including Duotone, and custom icons from Pro Kits. To use Pro icons in the Icon Chooser, create a Kit, enable Pro icons in its settings, and add the API Token from your Font Awesome account to the plugin settings. The chooser searches icons included in the Kit subset, so its results depend on which icons the Kit contains.

The CDN can serve Free Version 6 icons. Pro icons through the CDN are limited to Version 5; Version 6 Pro requires a Kit. To use Pro icons through the CDN, add your website domain to the allowed domains in the CDN settings, then insert icons with shortcodes or HTML. The CDN Icon Chooser searches and includes Free icons; use a Pro Kit to search for Pro icons in the chooser.

Insert icons with your editor

Block editor

Add an icon as a Font Awesome Icon block, or insert one inline by choosing Font Awesome in the format toolbar. Inline icons require WordPress 6.3 or later. In the Icon Chooser, search by icon name, category, or keyword, then choose a family and style.

Classic editor

Add icons in a text area with shortcodes or basic HTML using standard Font Awesome syntax. In a shortcode, the icon name does not need the fa- prefix. Without a style prefix, the shortcode uses the Classic Solid style.

Compatibility and conflict scanning

Automatic compatibility supports Font Awesome Version 4 syntax. The Conflict Detection Scanner can find versions loaded by other add-ons or themes, show which versions are active, and help prevent conflicts that affect icon display.

Set up the plugin

Install and enable the plugin, then open its settings to pick an icon source. For a Pro Kit, enable Pro icons in the Kit settings and add your account API Token to the plugin. Once configured, insert icons through the block editor, classic-editor shortcodes, or HTML.
