Format and Reuse WordPress Citations with Footnotes Made Easy Pro
Footnotes Made Easy Pro extends Footnotes Made Easy with tools to create, format, shop, and reuse citations in WordPress posts and pages. Regular footnotes keep the existing workflow: write the note inside double parentheses, with a space before the opening pair, as in text ((this is a footnote)). The plugin numbers and links each note, then shows it at the bottom of the content. The existing footnote workflow works with the Classic Editor and Gutenberg.

Select a citation style and source type
Choose APA, MLA, or Chicago formatting and one of ten source types. Examples include books, journals, sites, newspapers, films, and theses. The selected style and source type determine how the reference is formatted.
When a source has a DOI or ISBN
Enter the identifier in the citation workflow. Pro can fetch source details such as the title, author, publisher, and year to populate the reference before insertion.
Reuse saved references
Save a source in the Citation Library, then search, filter, and insert it into any post where it is needed. The library lets writers reuse saved source details instead of rebuilding them for each post.
Manage footnotes in Gutenberg
The Gutenberg sidebar panel lets you manage, edit, and insert footnotes from the block editor. For inline footnotes, enter the double-parentheses syntax in a text block. The note appears at the bottom of the post or page with automatic numbering and links.
Existing footnote controls
Pro retains the underlying add-on's controls for combining identical footnotes, setting a manual starting number on paginated posts, and referring to an earlier footnote with ((ref:1)). Display and behavior options include identifier style, backlink format and position, header and footer text, tooltip behavior, whether identical footnotes are combined, and processing priority. Footnotes can be suppressed on selected page types, post types, URLs, or categories.
Installation and support
Install Footnotes Made Easy, then upgrade to Pro. To add an academic reference, use the Gutenberg sidebar or citation workflow, select a source type, choose APA, MLA, or Chicago formatting, then insert a new citation or reuse a saved one. Pro includes priority support from the AltviseWP team for questions about its citation and referencing tools.
