Protect Uploads Pro for WordPress media
Protect Uploads Pro adds controls for individual media files and the WordPress uploads directory. Use file passwords and role-based access to manage who can access media, and directory protection to address browsing of the uploads folder.
Features added in Pro
- Image watermarks: Add text to uploaded pictures and apply watermark operations in bulk. Set the text, position, opacity, and font size.
- Expiring download links: Share download links intended to remain available for a limited period.
- Role-based access: Restrict access by user role, with server-level enforcement.
- Hotlink protection: Help control direct use of media from other locations.
- Download analytics: Review information about downloads of protected files.
- Protected Download block: Add protected downloads within WordPress content using the dedicated block.
Protect individual media files
Assign one or more passwords to a file, with custom labels to distinguish audiences or sharing contexts. Password protection works with images, PDFs, videos, and files. Access logging entries activity for password-protected files, including IP addresses and user agents.
Protect the uploads directory
The add-on addresses directory browsing by adding an index.php file at the root of the uploads directory or configuring an .htaccess response that returns a 403 Forbidden error. The .htaccess option may be disabled depending on server settings. Built-in Site Health checks display whether the directory is protected from browsing, identify the server in use, and report risky file types found in the uploads folder.
Configure media protection
Open Settings → Media → Protect Uploads to configure protection. Then edit a media item in the Media Library to find its Password Protection section. Add one or more passwords and descriptive labels as needed. For images, set the watermark text, position, opacity, and font size before applying the available watermark operations.
Install and activate
Add Protect Uploads Pro to your WordPress installation and activate it. Review directory protection and media access options in the Protect Uploads settings under Media, then configure individual files from the Media Library. The interface is available in English, Français, Español, and Italian.
