PublishPress Permissions Pro: WordPress Content Access
PublishPress Permissions Pro lets you manage who can view or edit WordPress posts, pages, taxonomy terms, media files, and custom post types. Assign permissions to roles, individual customers, or custom groups. Each supported entry can have its own viewing and editing rules, and you can hide other users’ posts in the WordPress admin area from people who cannot edit them.
Plan access by audience and content
PublishPress Permissions Pro lets you manage who can view or edit WordPress posts, pages, taxonomy terms, media files, and custom post types. Assign permissions to roles, individual customers, or custom groups. Each supported entry can have its own viewing and editing rules, and you can hide other users’ posts in the WordPress admin area from people who cannot edit them.
Start by identifying the audiences and content that need separate rules. The plugin includes groups for logged-in and logged-out users, and you can make more for your website. Use the permission controls on a post, page, or taxonomy term to set who may read or edit it. Media Library permissions control who may view, list, or edit images and files. Pro can also block direct public access to media file URLs; access can depend on permission to a post that includes the file.
Show page sections under access conditions
The optional Content Visibility module uses shortcodes to show or hide sections based on login status, roles, capabilities, usernames, or Permission Groups. With multiple conditions, access can require all selected requirements or allow any one of them. Enable Content Visibility under Permissions > Settings > Features, then view and copy the available shortcode examples under Permissions > Settings > Shortcodes.
Build Pro workflows
- Restricted-content teasers: Show public teaser text before private content. If you display a login form, its redirect can return visitors to the content they requested.
- Personal posts: Automatically create an individual post, page, WooCommerce product, or another post type defined on the site for each visitor.
- Publishing statuses: Add workflow statuses beyond Draft, Pending Review, and Published. Each status can have its own capability requirements.
- Visibility statuses: Create content visibility options, such as Premium for paying members or Staff for site staff.
- Editorial Circles: Limit editing to content authored by users in the same group.
- Visibility Circles: Limit viewing to posts authored by users in the same group.
Configure and maintain your rules
Install PublishPress Permissions Pro, then configure permissions in the extension settings and the permission boxes for supported content. Begin with user groups and viewing rules, then add editing permissions, visibility conditions, statuses, teasers, or circles as needed. Review the rules when your audiences or editorial responsibilities change.
Pro integrations include BuddyPress, bbPress, WPML, and Relevanssi. These support permission workflows involving those extensions, including access based on BuddyPress group membership and permissions mirrored to translated content in WPML.
