WordPress delivery settings
Autoptimize Pro is a premium Power-Up subscription that combines page caching, image optimization, CDN support, automatic critical CSS rules and extra booster settings with Autoptimize’s asset tools.
Autoptimize can aggregate and minify CSS and JavaScript, minify HTML, optimize Google Fonts, process asynchronous non-aggregated JavaScript and remove WordPress core emoji code. CSS is linked in the page head by default. It can also inline critical CSS and defer aggregated full CSS. When aggregation is enabled, styles move to the head and scripts move to the footer; you can turn aggregation off while keeping minification enabled. HTTP/2 reduces the impact of multiple requests, and the useful settings depend on the website, so configure and test them in context.
- Page caching and booster options: Add caching and further performance settings to the asset optimization process.
- Image optimization: Optimize and lazy-load pictures, with support for WebP and AVIF. Image processing depends on the service fetching the original files; firewalls, password protection or hotlink restrictions can prevent access.
- CDN support: A configured CDN can serve Autoptimize-generated CSS and JavaScript. Uploaded images use a separate WordPress upload path setting; changing it applies to future uploads, not existing files.
- Automatic critical CSS: Use critical CSS rules to support non-render-blocking delivery.
Configuration and cache cleanup
Choose settings from the main options page, then check the affected pages. If aggregation, deferral, critical CSS, image or font settings cause unexpected behavior, adjust them and test again.
When removing Autoptimize, disable and remove the add-on, then clear any page cache that may still serve pages referencing its optimized CSS or JavaScript.
