Set upload rules and prepare pictures
Administrators can limit image uploads to selected visitor roles and set how many uploaded images each post may contain. Pro can automatically downsize images to specified maximum dimensions, convert uploads to a consistent image format if desired, and set compression levels for PNG and JPEG files.
Where are uploaded images stored?
Filesystem storage is the default and saves images in the WordPress uploads directory. In the Forum Images options, administrators can change the storage directory path and URL. The {uploads} placeholder refers to the uploads directory. A directory change applies to future uploads; existing images stay where they are.
When Infinite Uploads is active, forum images are automatically offloaded to cloud storage, served through its CDN, and optimized without extra setup. Amazon S3 storage and delivery for images in forum posts require the separate S3 Image Storage for bbPress add-on purchase.
The “Cleanup Unnecessary Files” tool works with the active storage engine. It removes temporary uploads older than 24 hours, images removed from existing topics or replies, and image folders belonging to deleted posts.
View images and check storage use
Clicking an image within a post can open it enlarged in a lightbox. Pro also reports the total image count and file size, giving administrators figures to review when monitoring stored forum images.
Configure the forum workflow
- Enable the TinyMCE editor for BBPress topics and replies.
- Open the editor’s image dialog and choose an image from a computer.
- Upload the image and insert it inline in the topic or reply.
- Set permitted user roles, per-post image limits, maximum dimensions, format preferences, and PNG or JPEG compression levels.
- Review image counts and file-size statistics as needed.
Install the Pro edition on the WordPress site using BBPress, then configure storage and image handling in the forum settings. If you plan to use Amazon S3, purchase and configure the separate add-on.
