Random Content Pro: Schedule and Target Content Rotations
Random Content Pro rotates grouped content across a WordPress site. Create entries with the WordPress editor, organize them into groups, and display a random selection in posts, pages, sidebars, or widget areas. You can use text, pictures, HTML, shortcodes, and embeds for testimonials, promotions, calls to action, tips, quotes, or FAQs.

What can you control?
Set start and end dates for individual entries so scheduled content appears and stops automatically. Target content by visitor role, login status, UTM parameters, referrer, or page type. Group display rules can limit visibility to logged-in users, specific roles, or specific page types.
- Set a weight from 1 to 10 for each entry. Higher-weight entries are selected more often.
- Prevent the same entry from appearing twice in a row and set cooldown periods between shows.
- Choose fallback content for cases where filtering leaves no eligible entries.
Where can you display a selection?
Add the [random_content] shortcode to a post, page, sidebar, or widget area. Include group_id to choose from a particular group and num_posts to display multiple entries. For example, [random_content group_id="13" num_posts="3"] displays three entries from group 13.
You can also add the Random Content widget from Appearance → Widgets, select a group, and set the number of entries to display. Leave the group selection empty to draw from all entries.
What if the page uses full-page caching?
Server-side rendering is the default. With full-page caching or a CDN, a cached page may keep showing the same selection. Add ajax="yes" to the shortcode to load content after the page loads, which is useful when caching would otherwise hold the selection in place.
How do you set up a rotation?
- Create entries under the Random Content post type using the WordPress editor.
- Create groups under Random Content → Groups and assign entries to them.
- Add a shortcode where the selection should appear, or add the Random Content widget and choose its options.
- Set schedules, visitor targeting, frequency, weights, group display rules, or fallback content as needed.
Random Content Pro is standalone and includes the free extension’s features. It uses built-in caching and PHP randomization. Automatic updates deliver functions and fixes through the WordPress dashboard.
