How xSpeed Pro manages WordPress performance
xSpeed Pro brings static page caching, code optimization, asset delivery, database cleanup, and site analysis to WordPress. Its AI-powered audit scans the website and identifies performance features to review, with severity ratings and concrete reasons.
Audit and test options
The optimization tool measures the site, applies recommended settings one at a time, checks the page after each change, and reverts a change if it breaks the site. Use the findings to choose which caching, optimization, or delivery settings to review.
Static page caching
Pages are saved as static HTML documents. On a cache hit, the static-file rewrite path serves the page before WordPress loads, bypassing PHP. The path works with Apache, nginx, and LiteSpeed. Cache purging can run automatically after publishing content, add-on updates, comments, or theme changes.
- Purge the cache from the WordPress admin bar with one click.
- Exclude specific URLs, such as cart, checkout, and account pages.
- Set cache expiry from 1 to 720 hours and maintain a separate cache for mobile visitors.
- Set cache rules and custom expiry for individual posts, or disable caching for a post.
Code and site optimization
Minification removes unnecessary whitespace, comments, and characters from HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Other tools include GZIP, lazy loading, font optimization, browser caching, object caching, CDN support, and database cleanup.
You can also disable selected WordPress functions when a site does not need them: frontend Dashicons, oEmbed, RSS feeds, XML-RPC, jQuery Migrate, and REST API authentication headers.
MCP and command-line management
The WordPress MCP server lets connected AI assistants and other MCP clients use the performance tools available in the dashboard. Operations include purging the cache, checking preloader status, running a score, optimizing the site, and reading or updating settings. Read-only connections remain read-only. Credential writing requires explicit permission when connecting.
Command-line operations cover cache purge, preloader status, score runs, optimization, and listing, getting, or updating settings.
Installation and configuration
Install and activate xSpeed Pro on the WordPress site you want to optimize, then review the audit results and performance settings. Configure exclusions for pages that should not be cached. Use the scoring and optimization tools to check changes.
