Accessibility widget and PDF tools for WordPress
The EqualWeb widget extension includes an accessibility menu for site users and offers tools to check and remediate files. The widget loads on public pages after you add the installation code from your EqualWeb account. PDF checks are free; AI remediation requires an account and credits.
Configure the visitor widget
Install and activate the add-on, then open EqualWeb in your WordPress admin. Paste your installation code in the Accessibility Widget tab and save. The plugin loads the widget on your pages with deferred loading and its integrity hash.
Design the accessibility button in WordPress by choosing its side, vertical position, size, colors, icon or short text label, shape, and outline. A live preview and contrast readout help you review the design. Set the menu language to follow the page language or choose one of the widget’s available languages. You can use the provided shortcode to place your own button, check whether the widget appears on your site, and hide it from logged-in administrators while you edit.
Visitors can choose controls such as screen reader adjustment, keyboard and numeric navigation, text reading, voice commands, blink blocking, color adjustment, and font sizing.
Check and remediate documents
Open the Documents tab to check PDFs against PDF/UA (ISO 14289). Each check runs 80 automated tests and provides a score from 0 to 100, a detailed report, and a shareable online report. Checking and reports are free and do not require an EqualWeb account. The plugin registers your site for free checks when an administrator opens a PDF tab.
AI remediation requires an EqualWeb account, an API key, and credits. It can process PDFs, including scans, as well as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files. Scanned documents are processed with OCR, and the result is a tagged PDF/UA file. The limit is 100 MB and 200 pages per document. Remediation uses about one credit per page, with a one-time payment per document.
For each file, you can compare accessibility scores before and after remediation. Choose to replace the original at the same URL, save the result as a new file, or download it. Replacing a file keeps a backup that you can restore.
Standards and access
The PDF tools address PDF/UA, WCAG 2.2, Section 508, the ADA, and EN 301 549. Free checks are execute from the plugin’s admin screen, and the site must be reachable from the internet for registration. The API key is stored encrypted and used in server-side requests.
