Choose what happens on the scheduled date

An action can change a post to Draft or Private, move it to the Trash, or delete it. You can also turn the sticky-post setting on or off. Category actions can replace all existing categories, add categories while keeping the existing ones, or remove selected categories while retaining the rest. PublishPress Future Pro can also move content to a custom status, including statuses supplied by other plugins.

Use processes for changes at various times

Action Workflows combine multiple steps and schedules in one content process. For example, a process can email the site administrator when a post is updated, move a post to the Trash one week after publication, or change it to Draft and add a category 15 days after publication. Another example is emailing the author one year after publication to ask them to review the content.

Set dates with metadata or imports

Metadata Scheduling lets a date field from Advanced Custom Fields or another supported add-on control a Future Action. The connected metadata can also specify whether the action is enabled, its type, and the taxonomy name and terms used for category changes. Pro supports importing posts with Future Actions by mapping import data, such as columns from WP All Import, to the Metadata Scheduling fields.

Set defaults and keep a record

In Future > Post Types, choose default actions for each enabled post type. Turn on “Automatically create actions” if new content should receive that action automatically; selecting a default by itself does not schedule actions for new content. The action log records which post an action affected, what changed, and when it happened.

Email notifications can report when content changes. You can also display an action or expiry date at the bottom of a post, or place it within the content using a shortcode with formatting options.

Check the queue if a change does not execute

Scheduled changes are stored as Action Scheduler actions, and the queue usually runs through WP-Cron. If a scheduled change does not happen, check whether WP-Cron is running. Sites that intentionally disable WP-Cron can process the queue with Action Scheduler’s async runner or with WP-CLI.
