WPConsent Pro is a self-hosted WordPress cookie consent extension. Its features are designed to help address privacy requirements associated with GDPR, CCPA and CPRA, ePrivacy, DSGVO, TTDSG, LGPD, POPIA, APA, RGPD, and PIPEDA.

How users set cookie preferences

Customize the banner, popup, or modal with various layouts and positions, colors, text, a logo, and button styles. In the preferences panel, visitors can accept or reject cookies by category, such as essential, statistics, and marketing. Per-service toggles let them set preferences for individual tracking services.

WPConsent can block common tracking scripts until the visitor grants the required consent. Supported services include Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, Microsoft Clarity, and Pinterest Tag. The add-on also works with Google Consent Mode v2, Microsoft Clarity Consent Mode, Global Privacy Control signals, and the WordPress Consent API, which lets compatible privacy-aware extensions read consent state.

What Pro adds

  • Smart geolocation for showing different consent notices by visitor region.
  • Automatic translations for multilingual sites.
  • IAB TCF v2.3 support for programmatic advertising.
  • Scheduled cookie scans with automatic scan alerts.
  • eCommerce auto-configuration and a CCPA “Do Not Sell” addon.
  • Searchable, exportable consent records stored in your WordPress database.

How scans and embedded content work

Cookie scanning identifies services and cookies used on your site. The Cookie Inspector can show cookies as they are set during a fresh-visitor session and guide you through documenting them. You can review detected services and cookie details when configuring your consent options.

WPConsent can also block embedded content, including YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Google Maps, and reCAPTCHA, until consent is granted. For YouTube, Vimeo, and DailyMotion, customizable placeholders can use images hosted on your own website.

How regional notices differ

Geolocation lets you configure notices for different regions. For example, you can show an opt-in style banner to EU and UK visitors, a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” notice to California visitors, and a lighter notice elsewhere.

How to set up WPConsent Pro

Install WPConsent Pro in WordPress. Configure the banner layout, wording, colors, logo, categories, and service preferences in the plugin settings. Run a cookie scan and review the detected services, then configure regional notices and integrations and enable the consent controls your website needs.
