Subscription products, billing and store management

Subscriptions for WooCommerce Pro helps merchants sell physical, downloadable and virtual products, recurring services and memberships through recurring plans, orders and automatic renewals. Plans can use weekly, monthly or annual charges for models such as subscription boxes, OTT platforms, gyms, milk services, online courses, membership websites, SaaS businesses and other services. Stores can also provide guides, eBooks and audiobooks to members while restricting access for non-members.

Product types and plan terms

Admins can make simple and variable subscription products. For a simple product, configure the billing interval, expiry, signup fee and free trial. For a variable product, configure subscription settings for each applicable variation so clients can choose among the settings offered within that product.

Payments, renewals and cancellations

The add-on works with Payfast, Amazon Pay Payment, WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway and WPS Paypal Payment Gateway. Automatic retries for failed recurring payments can be configured for a specific subscription plan. Customers can cancel subscriptions at any time, and a subscription is automatically canceled when its related order is canceled.

Automated email notifications can be sent for subscription cancellations, expirations and renewal orders, keeping customers informed about these events.

Tools for subscription management

A shortcode displays a subscription table on a website. The REST API delivers subscription details, and error logs record subscription-related issues. An AI subscription health widget provides subscription health information for tracking performance.

Setup and use

Use the multi-step setup to configure the subscription model. For a simple product, open it in the WooCommerce product area, enable the subscription option, then set its billing interval, expiry, signup fee and free trial. For a variable product, configure the subscription option for each applicable variation.

Customers can then purchase the available subscription products through the store. Merchants can manage recurring orders, cancellations, renewal activity and subscription details, and review subscription-related errors with the available tools.
